Life as a freelance writer
In: Follies
29 Apr 2009It appears that the Fox network has decided to ‘just say no’ to President Obama. They’ve announced that they’re not going to air his next primetime news conference, instead preferring to keep their regularly scheduled programming intact. They said they’ll run an on-screen graphic referring viewers to Fox News, but they’re actually declining the President’s request.
Who else but Fox could get away with just saying no to the President?
Have you ever said no to someone in management before?
Ever had one of those *gulp* type of moments where the thought “was that a CLM (career-limiting move)?” runs screaming through your head the moment the words leave your mouth?
I'm a freelance technical writer who's trying to make the transition from working for somebody else to working for me.

Why now? It just seems odd that they would decide to say no to a president now.
But, from a management perspective – I say no all the time. Of course, it’s normally around whether or not an application can actually do what they want (and I normally come back and say I figured out how to get it to work). I, personally, don’t have a problem saying no. It would probably be good if I did have those thoughts of CLM running through my head.
