Transmissions from Captain Kirk to the ISS

Today’s regularly scheduled post has been postponed because of some space awesomeness that happened this morning.

Captain Kirk spoke with Commander Hadfield in space.

Yes, William Shatner (aka Capt. Kirk of Star Trek fame) spoke via phone with Commander Chris Hadfield on the International Space Station today. I watched it on the NASA TV channel, but it was also webcast on the Canadian Space Agency’s (CSA) uStream channel online.

Following a hilarious and amazing Twitter conversation last month between Hadfield and Shatner, the CSA decided to set up an actual phone call between the two, and the result was brilliant. (To catch up on the Twitter convo, visit the CSA’s home page and check out the photo gallery found there, they’ve done it up really well.)

I’ve mentioned before how I’m a space geek, and how I’m just in awe of the job Commander Hadfield is doing from space, but every event keeps getting better and better. I’ve learned a lot from the Commander, and I can’t believe that such things are happening in my lifetime. It truly is the stuff of science fiction, and I’m a witness!

If you haven’t been following along, I highly recommend you do. Some links for you to find out more:
